INTERVIEW
STEFAN STEGNER
Before coming to SCHERDEL, he had worked in the automobile industry and medical technology for a family-run company in Upper Franconia for 30 years. As shop manager, he had been in charge of the complete pneumatics area. Another area of responsibility about which he has been very passionate these past years and which has always accompanied him, was teaching young people in various training professions.

What do you do in your free time?
Family, youth work, sports (crossing the Alps by bike and running, according to the motto “it clears your head”).
What were the last books you read?
Shopfloor Management: Leading at the Point of Value Creation Value Stream Design The Way to a Lean Factory
What do you like about SCHERDEL?
A super human beat! People meet eye to eye!
What were your initial thoughts?
How do I gain the trust of the management -> plant management -> trainers -> trainees -> employees? Finding access to employees you don’t know and who have a great deal of knowledge / core competences due to a very long period of service. Is it possible to find a common denominator between the factories, taking into account customer requirements? Honesty was the key to success here! Finding the common denominator was not that difficult.
Can you tell us something about your targets?
To develop the challenges we face into our strengths. To find a common denominator for the apprenticeships at the different locations. The prerequisite is the integration of all trainers, for a Scherdel basic training that is suitable for young people. Increasing the attractiveness of the different professions and the creation of a training forge.
What prompted you to leave the company you were at for 30 years?
I always did what I couldn’t identify with.
What can make you resent something?
I am very direct and see things straightforwardly.
How do you make decisions?
I put myself in the other person’s shoes and think about the consequences, privately I involve my family.
What do you wish for in general?
To give back something of what other people have given me! Peace and health for all people in this world.
And at work?
In the short term, as I am still new, to get to know SCHERDEL better. In the long term, I would like to give every new employee the opportunity to find out about their aptitudes and abilities through our training project, in order to enable them to successfully enter the professional world.
